Ebony G. Patterson’s work stops you in your tracks. Her tapestries, photographs, and installations are maximal, mesmerizing, and deliberately overwhelming — pulling you in with their dazzling beauty before confronting you with something far more uncomfortable: the question of who gets to be seen, and who doesn’t. A MacArthur Genius Grant Fellow whose work has shown at the Whitney, the Brooklyn Museum, the Venice Biennale, and beyond, Patterson is one of the most exciting and provocative artists working today. She’ll be in conversation with José Carlos Diaz, Chief Curator at Pérez Art Museum Miami, for a frank discussion about art, power, race, beauty, and why a garden is never just a garden.
