What does it take to build one of the world’s great violins, and what secrets are hidden inside the instrument’s most legendary examples? Samuel Zygmuntowicz, widely regarded as one of the finest violin makers alive today, will offer a rare behind-the-scenes look at a craft that blends artistry, acoustics, and an almost obsessive pursuit of perfection. Walking audiences through the making of a violin from start to finish (the wood selection, the shaping, the varnish, the acoustics), he will share state-of-the-art imaging techniques and the first ever 3D laser vibration studies of Stradivari and Guarneri violins, revealing hidden secrets of history’s greatest instruments.
This series is presented in conjunction with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Violin Festival of concerts February 17, 21 and 24 at the Royal Poinciana Chapel.
