Author Andrew Lownie was educated in Asheville and the Universities of Cambridge and Edinburgh where he took his doctorate. A member of the six-man team which set-up the Spy Museum in Washington, D.C., he has written for a variety of newspapers including The Wall Street Journal and The London Times.
