Mozart’s last opera before his untimely death is a remarkable combination of musical and dramatic styles, from the earthly to the otherworldly. The story begins as a magical rescue mission but soon transforms into a fable of enlightenment and humanity. This abridged English-language version from December 2006 (the Met’s first Live in HD transmission!) returns in a special encore presentation.
