Create a community memory quilt composed of hand-written memories or drawings on fabric and hand-sewn log cabin quilt blocks. Learn to create this foundational quilt block and explore its versatility with color, shape, and texture.
Basic sewing skills are employed, or will be demonstrated, for this workshop. We are embracing the slow-craft style movement with every stitch, word, or drawing. No machines, just needle, thread, and markers.
Our collective set of quilt blocks and memories will be combined to make a quilt for the library called The King Library Memory Quilt and housed in the library’s collection. Your memories will be part of history and preserved for generations to enjoy.
Instructor: Palm Beach Modern Quilt Guild
Biography: The Palm Beach Modern Quilt Guild is for full-time and part-time residents in and around the Palm Beach area who have an interest in modern quilting and design. Our members will meet regularly to discuss all things quilting, including education, tips, and sharing of ideas. Our guild is a part of the Modern Quilt Guild, an international organization supporting the modern quilting community and the host of the annual quilting convention, Quiltcon!
The King Library Memory Quilt is a community art and storytelling project inviting patrons to share memories, reflections, or drawings on fabric quilt blocks. Throughout the month of August, participants may drop into the library to work on a quilt block during open hours or pick up materials to complete one at home. Donated fabrics for the project are generously provided by Coniglio Palm Beach.
Using simple hand sewing, writing, or drawing, each block becomes a small personal artwork. At the end of the month, all completed blocks will be collected and joined together into The King Library Memory Quilt, a collaborative textile piece that reflects the voices and creativity of the community.
