This class focuses on the first decades of the 19th century and the composers responsible for the development of its musical styles. We will analyze symphonic works from Mendelssohn to Tchaikovsky, as well as the great piano and violin concertos. We also will outline the influence of Nationalism and the creation of the Tone Poem.

Juliette de Marcellus is a pianist, prize-winning music critic and lecturer. She studied at the Guildhall School of Music in London and with professor Leonie Gombrich at Oxford.
