Dramatic events include the French Revolution, Napoleon’s retreat from Russia, the battle of Trafalgar, the Congress of Vienna, and the struggle to end the slave trade. Personalities include Robespierre, Nelson and Lady Hamilton, Wellington and the Czar of Russia. Artists include Gainsborough, Sir Joshua Reynolds, Romney, and Jacques-Louis David, and novelists Fanny Burney, Jane Austen, and Alexandre Dumas.
