New Insights into Life in the Deep Ocean with Julie Huber

Recorded November 18, 2024

The ocean, spanning 70% of the planet, harbors some of Earth’s most extreme environments, yet only around 20% has been explored. Its impact is profound, serving as the linchpin of Earth’s climate system by regulating the weather and sequestering carbon. Join oceanographer Dr. Julie Huber for a discussion on cutting-edge research in these extreme ocean environments.

Huber is an oceanographer working to advance knowledge of the deep ocean. She is interested in how basic earth processes interact to create and maintain microbial life in the deepest and darkest parts of the ocean. She has led and participated in ocean expeditions around the world using deep submergence technology. She is also an astrobiologist working with NASA to shape the search for extraterrestrial life on the ocean moons of Saturn and Jupiter. She enjoys mentoring the next generation of scientist and communicating their work to the public.
