Shapes and patterns in poetry are appealing to the eye and pleasing to the ear. Join us to explore how we can use geometry and numerical patterns to construct a poem with ease. We will read poems that have shapes and patterns and collaborate to write similar poems. Participants will use their favorite shapes and patterns to create individual poems in an Idea Book.
Presenter: Ruth Champagne
Biography: Ruth Champagne, Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at Concordia University Chicago, is a distinguished educator and author with a Ph.D. from Columbia University’s Teachers College. She’s known for her contributions to math education, including authoring textbooks for major publishers like Silver Burdett Ginn and Pearson Education. Dr. Champagne is also a speaker at national math conferences, a grants evaluator for the Chicago Foundation for Education, and the founder of FRIENDLY MATH. Her dedication has earned recognition from Chicago Woman Today and praise from the late Nobel Laureate, Dr. Leon Lederman. Emphasizing the fusion of math and creativity, Dr. Champagne’s impact on education is significant, evident in her extensive publications and ongoing inspiration to students and educators.
