Internationally renowned artist Vik Muniz is celebrated for his unique employment of a wide range of materials – including dust, sugar, chocolate, diamonds, caviar, toys, junk, scrap metal, dry pigment, vintage postcards and magazine shreds – to reconstruct familiar and iconic imagery. His material constructions and collages are photographed, then either magnified or shrunken in scale, the final work of art a documentation of his conceptual and artistic processes. His work is included in major public collections such as the Art Institute of Chicago; Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art; Guggenheim, New York; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Israel Museum, Jerusalem and Tate, London, among others. Muniz is the subject of an Academy Award-nominated documentary film entitled ‘Waste Land’ (2010). Born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1961, Muniz lives between Rio de Janeiro and New York City.
Muniz will give a lively presentation discussing his career, creative processes and latest production in the face of the pandemic.
